Fractio II reveals the connection between matter and its identity as it moves through reconfigurations. In this work erosion is visible and this marks the modelling of the body. A drawing in sanguine is suspended on the wall and seems to be projected on the sculpture, initiating a dialogue between the object’s mass and its graphic surface. The monumental sculpture of a delicately carved head presents a contrast between its smooth surface and the cracking marks, which runs inexorably across the wood, its foundational structure. Vertical joints in the facial features recall the assemblage of this composition of volumes. In the back, the clearly visible strata of the wood is designed in a series of semicircular layers; this evokes the side of a mountain or the interior of a shell. From there, the eye is invited to alternate between the interiority of the body and the exteriority of the landscape.
